at first treat it as a job that you have to do. it will help you focus a little better. after a while you will start to relax and it will be easy to make friends while keeping your work habits intact.
good luck, it can suck at first, but it will definitely get a whole lot better!

Congratulations! It is such an exciting (and terrifying) experience. Prepare yourself to meet people of all types. Know that you will be broadening your horizons. There will be a lot of help available if you need it, but you will be growing up in the process. I suggest that you don't try too hard on the making a good impression part and just be yourself -- and treat others the way you want to be treated! Have a ball!

1. First of all be yourself.
2. Don't expect you and your roommate to be best friends. They might already know people who go to the same school and are going to want to hang out with them instead.
3. Don't be shy. Break the ice and say hello to your neighbors.
4. Always make sure you go to class.
5. Stay in touch with old friends by making a Facebook account and to make new ones with other people who go to your school who also have a Facebook account.
Good luck in school!

Go talk to your neighbors. We left our door open while we unpacked last year and we met so many people that way. Also, be yourself. Study. Don't party the whole time because you'll fail classes and then it'll take you longer to graduate. Join clubs and go to activities. Talk to people in your classes. And, most of all, enjoy it. College is a wonderful time.

get involved...it doesn't matter in what, just be involved. you'll make friends and you won't be bored.
try to get along with your roommate(s). talk to your RA as soon as problems arise.
stay around on the weekends. you'll make more friends and begin to think of college as home.
go into things with a positive attitude.
drink off campus. don't make the RAs have to write you up.
find other things to do besides drink.
make friends with your RA. they'll be an assest to your success.
be yourself.
learn to prioritize and organize. you'll have more fun once you know all your work is complete.

get involved, meet people on your hall, do your best to reach out to others. STAY ON CAMPUS OVER THE WEEKEND! if you go home every weekend, you won't be able to bond with the people who are there all the time. it is hard to have time to spend meeting new people and doing things with friends during the week.

everyone has his own fears when new things come up. i'd say that just continue to be yourself. have fun, try things that you haven't done before but don't forget the values that you learned back home. college offers so many opportunities for you to grow as well as temptations that may test you. it's up to you how to respond to it. make sure that in each of your choices, you'll have something to learn. goodluck! =)

Just introduce yourself to everyone in your dorm. Bringing cookies or brownies doesn't hurt either...
