Just introduce yourself and if they don't say," My name is..." just ask them what thier name is. This works for me a lot.

Begin by commenting on your surroundings. If you're at an art gallery, for example, talk to the person about some sculputers or paintings. From there you can being to sence if they have a similar taste in art, and you can go from there
