What do you mean by that? If you don't know what respect is, then your parents did a poor job of teaching you values! When two people share a life, it is inevitable that you will learn what your spouse likes, doesn't like, what they expect of each other, what kind of behavior is expected, etc. Respecting your spouse is abiding by and within those guidelines that you set for each other. Do what is expected of you, don't do what you aren't supposed to do and so on. Thinking of your significant other before you act, in other words.

That's a good question. It can mean different things to different people. What it doesn't mean is living the life that HE would have you live and not taking time for yourself and your own dream. I mean, yes, once you are married you become a unit, but that doesn't mean that you have to lose yourself to respect him.

I know that YOU know what it means.. but you want OTHER peoples answers. I agree with the intelligent answers.

Treat spouse like your best friend, meaning not like your sibling or your enemy. No abuse and not insults. To treat them like you would like to be treated. Treat them like your knight in shining armor. Someone that you WANT to be nice to, not someone that a document says you SHOULD/HAVE to be nice to.

To treat them as you would want to be treated. That is always the rule I go by. You cant list things that should or shouldn't be done. Just think "How would I want to be treated in the same situation" and you have your answer.

I respected the ex wife and she filed false cases and kept my whole family in jail and harassed us with the help of police to run away with large cash.

So first respect yourself before caring for others.

It's like respecting anybody else. Watching the things that you say or do that may offend, embarrass, or cause hurt feelings.
