I bought a lynksys wireless router and spent 6 hours trying to get it working .I also followed the installation word for word and still couldn't connect.I then went online (with my old modem) and found in some forum that there's something you have to change
in the settings on the driver setup that doesn't tell you in the manual. try searching for "Linksys troubleshooting" online.

Let's get the facts straight here for a moment and sort this out. What type of connection is this router going to? DSL, Cable? Is the IP static or dynamically assigned? When you installed your old router, did you need to set it up with a user name and password authentication? The first thing I would personally look for is whether or not you are being assigned an IP address. You should be able to find it under the configuration for the router (usually you get there by type 192.168.1.1 in your browser and if you haven't changed the username and password, the user is blank and the password is admin, which I strongly urge you to change). If you provide a model of the linksys router and the type of connection, I might be able to futher provide you information. Good luck!

All the models you listed have the features you need, name wireless security. You would still have to compare the specs though. If all the specs were the same, my rating from low to high would be Belkin > Netgear > DLink > Linksys Keep in mind that this is my opinion only. First decide on the specs. How much encryption it offers, what is the wireless speed, what is the range... You can also try googling the brand name with the word review for what others think. Like "Linksys router reviews"

I'm guessing you've installed the software on your laptop for your wireless card and if it is already built in will be installed when you bought it i imagine. Your problem lies there. Open the software for your laptop wireless and tell it to find an available network. It should see the router. It will warn you the network isn't secure. Just tell it to connect anyway and it should drop straight in.turn your firewall off for the time being til its running. once it connects you should be able to run internet explorer.
You are probably trying to connect on the old lan settings which wont work .
best of luck Simon
PS it'll be worth the effort

I switched from a Netgear Router to a Linksys router a few weeks ago and worked for hours to get 2 laptops to connect to the router. Got them to "connect" but no internet. Both laptops running Windows XP.
Ran Network Setup Wizard on each laptop - FIXED EVERYTHING. So you might want to try that.

the configuration on the router is different from each other. you need to call linksys for that. call Linksys: 1-800-326-7114. by the way you need to have the uid and the pwd for the ISP provider. you might need to have the ip address, default gateway, subnet mask, and broadcast ip.. if you have set s of ip address you also need to have the ip address to and from.
