If repubs thought hard enough they would realize, just like everyone in washington already knows,
That if women didn't have abortions , there would be such an extreme poverty, unemployment and crime rate that it would be chaos.
We simply can't sustain such a high population without it being curbed somehow, there are not enough jobs for them in this country and if REpubs would have it their way,
there would also not be any government safety nets to help them.
Basically, they want children to keep popping out at astounding rates--more than they are already!!! and have the children starving on the street? Why? So you can call their mother a welfare queen and tell them to get a job?
What's next? bring back child labor?

A few reasons:

1. Republicans believe life is precious until you are born.

2. They have successfully brainwashed the uneducated members of their party into believing only democrats are on welfare... the number of registered republicans on welfare is actually higher than democrats. There is a large concentration of white Republican welfare recipients in the Midwest states.

3. They do not believe in the constitution that the Supreme Court based its ruling on in making abortion legal.

"Repubs" aren't nasty to poor people, but the do believe that people should first try to help themselves before asking for a handout such as welfare or other types of assistance. The Bush administration has done quite a lot to help people help themselves, though they also insist that people work for what they need.

The abortion issue is a sticky one, an issue that has been argued back & forth for ages, and I doubt it will be solved here. The Republican party (and most other sensable people) believe that people should take the time & effort to carefully plan their reproduction, and not depend on abortions to halt "inconvenient" pregnancies that arise from careless and unthinking sexual behavior. The feeling among many people (and not just Republicans, either) is that abortion is nothing less than murder, and that most abortions would not be necessary if people would excercise a modicum of personal responsiblilty.

We can sustain a much larger population than we presently have. We have only a few hundred million people, while China has about 10 times the number of people that we have -- and growing. The USA is one of the least densely populated countries on the planet, and we supply more food than most other countries.

As for there not being enough jobs - that argument won't hold water. There are plenty of jobs, and as the population increases so will available jobs. It's simply the natural order of checks & balances, people need to work to support themselves, and the more people there are the more jobs will be created to support the growing population (though there will always be a small portion of the population that doesn't / can't / won't work.

As for gov't safety nets, it's not the gov't's duty to supply a safety net for everyone. It's that darned "personal responsibility" thing again. People need to plan for their own survival as much as possible, and only lean on the gov't as a last restort - not the other way around. Basically, people need to be responsible for themselves first. The gov't's duty is the management of the country's resources, not to protect each & every individual from their own mistakes.

Go to school. Get a job. Get health insurance. Create a savings account. Get married BEFORE having children. Send them to school. Don't depend on the government (read: me & my tax dollars) to cover your butt if you're not willing to do it yourself. Be responsible and nobody can call you a welfare queen, nor will there be any need for anyone to tell you to get a job, nor any need for child labor. If more people would do these things, the existing "safety nets" would be more than adequate to handle the ones who don't.

We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in all the world and it is NOT due to abortion. It is due to capitalism making this country a good solid economic force.

Actually if youre worried about population explosion, the Republicans just helped curb that by having welfare reform so welfare moms cant sit back and have 10 babies all at the taxpayers expense.

You simply cant justify the murder of unborn children. And the fact that you bring money into it as a reason really shows the lack of morality common in liberals.

Abortion is not the problem, neither is poverty. These are symptoms of a problem. The problem is the liberal mind-set which does not value life.

How do you think our nation made it for nearly two hundred years with no legal abortion and unsurpassed prosperity?

Liberals are for aborting their own young. First they conceive via promiscuous sex, usually with multiple partners - so they spread dangerous diseases - then they have their unborn babies murdered so they can do it all over again.

This behavior has preceded the fall of every civilization documented through-out history. It is repeating again. Not to mention that it is a sin, but liberals do not concern themselves with sin, they ALWAYS do what they want, regardless of the horrible consequences to others.

Now, if abortion were not allowed, and the government quit rewarding unwed mothers by paying them for procreating, there would be far fewer pregnancies out of wedlock.

The teenage pregnancy rate is not really higher than it was 50 years ago, it's just that 50 years ago they were married first.

Liberalism is a mental disorder and always leads to the destruction of the civilization.

it is amazing how people are so concerned about killing babies or not . why don't we find some sort of birth control that would work for all the sluts out there that can't take on their own responsibility's , this would stop the welfare queens from sucking the system dry . Welfare is for the failures in life that were not mature enough to make good decisions , that's a fact . I say every female baby born should be implanted with some sort of birth control , and to get it removed you would have to pay $1000 and take a child raising class

Wakeup, you really amaze me. Where did you get so much rubbish. I did not know the reason women's lib fought for abortions was to curb the worlds population. If that was the case , why did the woman get pregnant to began with. If both sexes took better protection measures the problem would be solved. What you have said is right out of Planned Parenthoods guidebook. They are the only ones who benifit from unwanted babies. They benifit in the wallet.

Way back in 1825, Malthus wrote a book, ESSAY ON POPULATION. I realize you lieberals aren't very literate, but that book is still available today. Maybe you can get a home schooled kid to read it to you. It is famous for a minor point when Malthus said population grows to the limit of food supply -- that was when infanticide was considered the worst crime a human could commit. (Still is.)

Most of that book was chart after chart after chart, showing that whenever a country or state passed welfare laws (called poor laws in those days) the number of people in poverty, went UP, not down. ALWAYS!

We had welfare for women for over 40 years in the US, and after all that money the number of people in poverty was up. Check it out.

Why? Malthus had his own theory, but in his days it was assumed only men were capable of making important decisions, so of course his theory was wrong.

The real reason, which has been documented zillions of times is welfare for poor people pays people not to work. PERIOD. Thus, giving welfare to poor people is just about the nastiest and most disgusting thing anyone can do.

Any political party which supports increasing the suffering connected with poverty and hopelessness HATES POOR PEOPLE. That is the lieberals and their political party, the Democrats. We Republicans believe if we force poor people to go to work, they will stop suffering. When Newt Gingrich announced in the 90's that welfare was going to be shut down, the very next year the number of unwed mothers dropped 5%! Check it out.

As far as abortions, women themselves don't believe in reproductive freedoms. I know this because they refuse to grant them to men. As women shriek and demand reproductive freedom for themselves, they demand total lack of reproductive freedom for men. If women really believed in reproductive freedom, they would DEMAND the same thing for men.

I am reminded of the grunting and squealing of the pigs I slopped on my father's farm in the 50's.

thats a highly illogical argument. I think you ought to look at some serious stats as to why women get abortions.

The list for those wanting to adopt is twice as high as those that get an abortion. Let gays adopt and make less strickt rules, then the "povert problem " is solved

many people are poor because they allow themselves to be that way.

That is one theory, or the next einstein was aborted 13, 14, 15 seconds ago, 17, 18,....

Or you could be more responsible, have the child and put it up for foster care especially since there is a huge list of people wanting newlly born children.

Repubs are not nasty to poor people, i am poor and the only people that has ever threatened or did anything to my family were John Kerry supporters. I don't think you are actually awake

You are looking in the wrong direction for your answer. First of all, people do not just get abortions because they are poor. A lot of people get them because they are too selfish to take responsibilty for their own actions and don't want to give up their lifestyle just for some attachment. How about instead of getting mad because if we didnt get abortions, the economy would waste away; you get mad because people are irresponsible and selfish. People have downrated sex from something that two married people do to show their love for one another to just something that all people do with all other people do like we are all a bunch of damn animals. How about instead of promiscuity, we practice a little dignity, control, and SAFETY if we dont want to have kids. This would avoid a lot of broken up kids who grow up with no parents to speak of; and this whole abortion issue that you speak of because instead of people thinking about what they can do after the fact to keep their life from being affectecd by their actions, people think about what they do BEFORE they do it. This is the most retarded thing I have heard anyone say concerning abortion; and it maddens me that people actually think like this. It may just be a clump of tissue to you, but to me its a human being with a beating heart and a soul. Have you ever actually seen an aborted baby? I have. Maybe that would make you change your mind about YOUR selfish freedom and concerns.

First, I believe reproductive rights belong to the woman with the uterus, not her neighbor and not her congressman, and sure as hell not her president. The idea that something as basic as my right to reproduce is up to a group of people that call themselves democratic(as if your party really represents any one who's not filling your pockets w/ $) or republican( ditto for you, money.money ,money. Partisan politics are for people that are happy with the status quo- . As a working girl, middle class, white,
single mom, I'd ;like to see my needs addressed as would my middle class neighbor- but since i'm not queer, illegal, i dont need welfare or an abortion- my interests don't need to be addressed
