It really doesn't matter where along the line the trap is located, just that it be somewhere on that dedicated line, so there will be no escape of methane gas from the sewer into the shower. And the line after the trap (into the sewer line) must be lower than the line leading to the trap (for proper drainage).

the previous answer is right on. I would also be concerned with the other types and number of fixtures and proper venting. Your best bet would be to contact your local building department as they are the experts in your area as far as local building codes are concerned.

building code inquiring will only get you obligated to have it inspected. it is not a safety issue, You will probably need to add a dry vent for it to drain properly, unless it is within 10 fet of an existing vent
