whats the probability that a pregancy test would show up negative but be a false negative?

That would depend on the timing to the pregnancy test. If it was taken 4 or 5 days after a missed period (and you have regular periods) than it would be safe to say you aren't pregnant. HCG is the hormone that triggers the positive pregnancy test and is dectable 4 days or so BEFORE your missed period with some of the earlier tests. Again, would depend on when you took the test.

False negatives can be caused by not using the test properly, using it too early, or not having enough hormones in the urine for the test to measure. For best results, wait until you've missed a period and use the test with your first morning pee because the urine is more concentrated.
