If your not dialating then your not going to give birth. You still have 2 more weeks to go before it is even considered safe to give birth. Chances are the contractions will stop within a few hours.
I am a few days over 33 weeks pregnant. Friday I went into the hospital for a sonogram and to be monitored just to check the overall well being of the baby. I was having contractions and didn't even know it until it was showing up on the monitor. Freaked me out. What freaked me out more was then I started to actually feel them. I've had braxton hicks contractions before and they never lasted more than 3 or 4 contractions then stopped. These were continueing and they were 2 to 3 mins apart. The nurse kept saying they were just baxton hicks but I just couldn't accept that fact because no matter what I did they continued. I was afraid cause I knew my baby wasn't ready to be born. Finally two hours later they quit.
If your contractions increase in intensity and are coming closer together then you may have need for concern.
If this is your first baby or even like in my case the 5th it is normal to worry and doubt and stress. Just realize that when you do actually go into labor you will have plenty of time to get to the hospital. 8 mins apart even if you were going into labor is still way early and you would have several hours before you would need to get to the hospital.
If you have what is called a bloody show, this usually consist of mucus with spotting of blood then you will want to get checked out but even this could happen 2 weeks in advance.
If you start leaking fluid, only 10% of women actually have their water break as a sign of labor, then get checked.
Don't worry, doctors and nurses are use to having women come in with false labor, this is normal and it's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.

I had a baby at 36 weeks.. He was tiny.. still needed to bake a little while longer...
Anyways, enough about me.. on to you.. Congrats on your impending labor!!! The sad for you honest truth is you could be having what they call "prodromal" labor.. basically a false labor..
If you can still walk and talk and carry on as normal, with contractions 8 mins apart.. then this could go on for awhile... So if I were you I'd try to relax, eat a meal that sounds totally wonderful to you and keep an eye on your contractions...
Most docs don't want to see you in the hospital until your cx are regular and 2mins apart... the contractions are what helps you dialate....
If your water hasn't broke yet-You can still relax in the bathtub with a nice warm (not hot) bath.. relaxing you might help you speed things along.. and it should help with the contractions...
Congrats!!! Not much longer now!!! But you need to RELAX..;)

Did he mention Braxton-Hicks? You're probably having contractions that aren't actually real contractions. Some women think these are "practice" contractions that help prepare you for actual labour. Don't worry, these contractions are not harmful in any way, and you probably have another couple of weeks to go yet, especially if this is your first child.A full term pregnancy is actually at the end of 40 weeks. You'll know you are in labor if a) your water breaks b) your contractions are 2-3 minutes apart. Good luck.

your body is gearing up and preparing for labor and delivery and letting you know its getting close but this could go on for days or maybe even weeks. The contractions need to be close together and strong to bring the baby down the canal and make you start to dialate. if you want to get this done try having alot of sex if your water hasnt broken,,, dont do this is your water breaks but the protein in the sperm will help soften your cervix and to help you start to dialate also try walking alot that may gear things up faster also

That seems wrong. You should be in the hospital with contractions that close. You could go into labor really fast and at this stage the baby might need extra care when he comes out. Stay on your toes, and if the contractions increase to every 6 minutes, call your doctor or the hospital no matter what.

contractions are pretty normal and the fact that your not dialating isnt a big deal....try to get some sleep, relax (as hard as that is to do lol) but the more you rest and relax the easier things will go....try to get your mind off of it (i know that sounds hard to do) but honestly...im not gonna even attempt to go into the hospital until My water is broken and im as far dialated as i can stand without an epidural lol....cuz they wont give you anything for pain til five centi's. Good luck hun.

I am sure thats not what you wanted to hear but I was having contractions every 6 minutes & I was not dialating either & my doc told me to walk , I walked for almost 2 hours but it did the trick . Dont wear yourself out though walk then rest , because if it is the real thing your going to need all the strength you have . Good luck & congrats your about to have a baby !!!!!

You need to do as much walking as you can and be calm. Listen to the doctor because I don't care if you sleep at the hospital the doctor is not going to do anything until it is time. He or she did not spend all the time in school and not know what they are doing!!

36 weeks is still a little early. Could be Braxton Hicks. Lay low and see if they stop. Take a warm (not hot) bath...that will probably relax you. Good luck!!
