Is my GameShark busted?

I bought a N64 GameShark, Version 2.1, from a thrift store in Malden, MA and am having trouble selecting cheats. Whenever I select Select a Cheat, I have to hold the A Button down and I can't move through the supported games on the list. Is my copy of the N64 GameShark busted or am I doing something wrong?

I bought a gameshark for the GBA and it worked once & stopped working after that. You're not doing anything wrong. They're pretty much all busted. That's why somebody sold it to the thrift store. Sorry. I would try to sell it or trade it for something better. Good luck.
