If your fish is being picky about flakes, you are probably feeding too much. You should always leave your fish a bit hungry. The excess fish waste and possibly uneaten food is very hard on your tank. I feed half a dozen different products to my fish, new fish always take a few trys with each different food (except for the brine shrimp and beef heart) before they get used to eating them.

Get a good quality color enhancing flake food and all of them should be happy with it. Many fish do the eating and spitting out of food, it is normal. When he gets hungry, he will eat.

I feed my fish once a day and skip one or two days a week just to keep them interested in seeing me. I have done this for years and it causes no harm to the fish. The only fish you need to feed more often are babies (fry). They need to be fed 3-4 times a day with a high protein (45-50%) fine flake food.

You should try blood worms. All fish eat bloodworms, and they are very good for them. The best things to feed your fish is other critters such as : Smaller fish
Bloodworms
Brine Shrimp
Meal worms
Catfish will eat small crickets

I know it sounds bad feeding animals to your animals but its the best thing for your fish. Bloodworms are quite cheap, around $2-3 here in Australia. We dont feed our fish anything but other critters and they are so healthy, and they go wild over them. All fish spit their food back out and then eat it again, its easier to fit it into their mouths this way.

Try alternateing different foods , Flake , Tubfix worms (block or fresh) , Bloodworms (Frozen or fresh). Any good pet store carries these at fairly good prices.

Think would you like to eat nothing but cocopuffs every day for every meal. Eventually you would spit your food out too.

plain old flakes you get at the pet store
but try and mash them a bit before you dump em in the tank
they are probably spitting them out because the flakes are too big.
don't put in too much - one pinch if you have less than 10 fish - if your fish are swimming around and healthy looking, they are eating - trust me
