If 2 ot the top 5 players ( say if Maria Sharapova gets injured) will get injured then her chances are greater Mauresmo and Henin Hardene ( spelling right? ) are her toughest oppnents.
Otherwise I think number 2 or 3 are more like it.
She is a much better player to watch than the grunting Maria S.
Hingis is the most intelligent player coz she places the ball just so.
I think HIngis can still win another major, Australian or the US OPEN but am not sure if she can win the French Open.

Keep in mind i love Hingis and she is one of my favorite players but the answer is no. She dominated for a few years when there really was a void at the top of the womens game. Her game is entertaining and fun to watch though. I notice some complain about her height compared to other top players like Sharapova, Mauresmo and the Williams sisters as reasons she can't return to the top. Martina is 5'7 which isn't short. Just remember Quitter-Hardene is only 5'5 and Clijsters isn't tall either at 5'8. Her problem is her serve, especially the second serve. It is too much of a liability.

I think both can win a major again, but I do not if they could sustain a years work to get to number one. Hingis is the smartest player I have ever seen so she will , win the Australian Just like Carita did when we least expect it. IF Serena can ever play a full year season you better believe she will win one.

Well if you think about it, the world #2, Justine Henin-Hardenne,
plays a similar style to Hingis, but only with more power,
and JHN works out on the physical conditioning much more
than Hingis does, it's possible. I don't think Hingis has the
emotional maturity and the dedication to put in the work it takes
to get there, even though she still thinks well on the court.

Martina will have a hard time to get back to # 1 again i doubt if she can #5 or so will be it ! I kinda think she can win a mojor if she gets a good draw . Serena will never be # 1 again or win a major !

It will be hard for her, but definitely not impossible. As for the slams, I think the Aussie Open will be her best bet. But she will have to overcome the daunting challenges of Sharapova, Henin, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova and Clijsters to achieve that feat.

But I am quite doubtful about Serena. I think her days of glory are long gone. She may come back and even win a Slam( she can blow anyone away with her power), but I don't see her climbing to the No.1 spot again.

Maybe she can win another major but unlikely to become No. 1 again. But I like the fact that she is not a brat any more.
Same about Serena.

As much as it pains me to say this but I don't think Martina can ever find her form again. She was the one I routed when power players like Venus and Serena were coming out.But injury and years of absence can make a huge change.
As for Serena we'll have to see.I don't like her and so don't care.

Probably not. The best womens players on the tour are now bigger and stronger then Hingis. She is only 5'7'', whereas Maria Sharapova(she's so pretty) who won the US Open is 6'1''. It is a power game.
