If I have an idea for an invention, what all do I need to do to get it made into a product, sold and make a profit from it?

+ First you must prove that it is your idea and when you came up with it. One of the best ways I learned from my grandfather (a great gadgeteer) used to write up his idea and mail them to himself, and never unseal the envelope. The post mark would prove that you came up with the idea on that date or earlier. He called it a poor mans patent. You could send it in to the US or other patent office but this is expensive with attorneys and other fees.
+ after you have recieved proof that you came up with the idea you can market it to various groups that buy ideas and improvements on products. You might consider making a sample and selling it on your own. I have done this and will be coming out with it soon.
