starting fluid wont hurt it ,,but it may be the glow plug relay going bad on it,,what it does it kicks the glow plugs off too early on it,,and it may not be kicking them in at all,,i have seen this happen a lot to them, when one does this it gets really hard to start,,usually a diesel starts pretty good even in cold weather,,the newer ones are a lot better than the older ones was,,check the relay,,and also check the fuel filter on it,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

The starting spray should be used in moderation. If too much is used it can cause damage. Did any one check out the glow plug system? Basically have someone check each glow plug. The terminal attached to the glow plug should light up a test light when the wait light is on. There is also a possibility that the fuel shut off is sticking in the off position,Or there is water in your fuel. There is a fuel water separator that may need the water drained out of. there is a cable that can be pulled to let the water out. You may want to get a mechanic to do it And there is a glow plug relay I forgot to mention that could be bad. If the glow plugs are not lighting up the test light as indicated before You may want to check this relay. look in your owners manual or buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual to help do these procedures.

Starting fluid and glow plug don,t mix i can make the truck back fire in the manifold and that is not a good thing you said you have put in new glow plugs you will problem have to put in some more but it sound like you have go and air leak that is letting fuel drain back to the tank i don't no what year it is but before you start it take the fuel filter off and if fuel dos not run from the filter win you break the seal it has got and air leak. if it's a new truck it has got compression feting with oring they will have to be replaced but if it is older it has got copper gaskets and look at your fuel line a see if Any are wet. it is not a presure leak it is draw back leak.

It sounds like you need to get your injectors cleaned or dare I say replaced, but lets hope a good cleaning will do the trick.

Dirty injectors will make for hard starting, poor preformance and bad fule mileage. I would also look in to replacing the fule filter.

Hope this helps, Good luck
