Clapboard. It is used to record on camera the scene and take as well as to create and audio/visual synch point. That's why it is snapped shut, to make an audio and visual reference.

That's the action board. Every movie is shot in a series of scenes and each is numbered. When they do a scene over, it's "take two" or "take three" or however many it takes to get it right. So much of the incredible talent of putting a movie together is in the editing room where they put all the scenes together into a seamless story.
