I'm thinking of getting a small single-color tattoo on my left chest above the nipple (not actually ON the nipple). I am a male, BTW. Does this hurt any more than, say, ear piercing? I've had four piercings and it didn't particularly hurt.

That's not true. Not all tattoos take at least an hour. It depends on how big it is. But yes, it is more painful that getting your ear pierced because unless you're getting a dot the size of a needle it's going to be more than the one second it takes to pierce your ear.
Just avoid places that are really really bony or really really fatty. It hurts more if you tattoo on those sorts of areas. (ie: your foot and your triceps area)

Of course it will hurt more than having your ear pierced. Ear piercing only last seconds. A small tattoo will probably take close to 30 minutes (unless it is really small). It is also according to your pain threshold. Good luck.

Tattoos hurt in some areas of the body, but not where you're thinking of getting yours. It does not really feel too much like someone is sticking a needle in you, but more like someone is scratching you really hard. It's really more annoying than painful.

I have had both neither hurt that much.. Tattoo feels like little bee stinks but really doesn't hurt. Go ahead and do it . You will probably get another after the first one I did and I love them. My son-in-law did mine

ear piercing is quick and with littler pain whereas tattoos take at least an hour and man does it hurt!

I have 2 tattoos myself, one on my arm and one on my back shoulder blade. The one on my arm didnt hurt all that much, but the one on my back way painful, so on your chest, it shouldnt be that bad.

ALL men cry and b:tch when they get tattoos. It's a law of nature. Women, however, can handle the pain because we get practise at doing so EVERY MONTH OF OUR LIVES! (from 11 to 55).
