This is my personal opinion, there is no wrong answer, its just prefrence.

I prefer Desktop. I dont work for a business where I need a computer, I dont fly, and I play really advanced games.

Advantages -

Desktop -
You can configure the hardware alot easier. They have the ability to carry more power, better graphics cards, better processors, etc. You dont have to worry about the battery diying, because there is none. They can carry way bigger hard drives internally. You can add alot more things to it because theres alot of space inside, usually. They generally cost less for an equal version of a laptop.

Laptop - Take alot less room then desktops. They can be taken anywhere, at anytime, with little packing up time. You are not concealed to a single space when you do stuff. The mouse is built into the laptop, and the keyboard, which means no need to worry about cords getting tangled up. In my opinion, they look better then a desktop.

Disadvantages -

Desktop - are bulky and big. They cant be moved without lots of hassels. You have lots of cords that need to be organized, or they become tangled, and in my case, you have to redo everything because the keyboard doesnt fit on the desk. Theres many parts that can get in the way, fall over, etc. They take up more space then needed.

Laptops - are hard to use. Though everything is connected and one peice, its difficult to type, for me. The mouse pad is annoying to use and takes alot to get used to. Since the laptop is completely out, it can get damaged easier. You break the keyboard, or mouse, or moniter, it costs alot to fix. Speaking of which, they cost more then an equal desktop. They have a battery life 2 - 14 hours. The more the hours, the slower the system, as a rule. (Though they seem to be breaking it with a few new computers that run cooler and take less power. ) So you are limited to how long you can do something without a power outlet.

Hope this helps.

Hmm...I have both. Upside to desk top is that it is usually a bigger screen and it is what you are used to but the down side is it's not really portable. A laptop is great for being able to do just about anything from work, internet, and even playing dvd's in the car on long trips but the downside's can be weight, battery power, and it's not the same kind of keyboard. With the prices of each of them you can get both for under $1000 and use a network cord to transfer files back and forth and then you have the best of both worlds. If I have to choose one it would be a laptop though because I can use it for so much more, in more places.

there are virtualy no advantages to a desktop except price. It pays to spend a bit more for the same amount of money. Laptops are portable and have all the features of desktops. Unless you want somthing like 6 dvd drives or 9 hard drives you should defenently go with a laptop.

you truly desire to think with reference to the way you're going to apply this workstation. Are you going to desire to take this to artwork or college, or per chance you celebrate with sitting outdoors at the same time as searching the cyber web? a operating laptop or computer is clone of a private computer, even with the indisputable fact that, computers do have a tendency to be more low-cost. Laptops are a lot more advantageous power useful, verify my substances for a link to a piece of writing about a thanks to be more advantageous power useful at the same time as figuring out on a workstation. Laptops use eighty% a lot less power then a private computer and this can save money on your electrical energy bill. you could also purchase attachments on your computer and use it clone of a private computer, with a mouse and keyboard and nonetheless have the perk of taking it on a street vacation, or being waiting to take it with you.

Let's let the "experts" at Yale and Loyola Universities answer your question:

If you're a serious gamer or run a business that uses large, memory intensive programs, you'll get more for your money buying a desktop. But today's laptops are equal to or better than desktops of just a year or two ago. Just remember, you will pay a lot more for the portability.

i think a lap top because you can take it anywhere and it isnt very heavy to carry around and it doesnt have all the confusing tangled wires that come with desk tops. With desk tops though you can get lots of different types of those computers. But i think lap tops are best.
