You should notice the baby 'dropping' into position in the lower pelvis approximately within the last two weeks prior to birth.
Because gestation in women varies, and ranges anywhere from 37 to 41 weeks, there is no way to put a specific number on it.

It varies. But here is what I found on the web:
Engagement: What It Means When the Baby Drops
by Lisa Rodriguez, R.N. and Marjorie Greenfield, M.D.
reviewed by Marjorie Greenfield, M.D.
As you reach the last few weeks of your pregnancy, you may notice that suddenly it is easier to breathe and there seems to be more space between your breasts and your uterus. This change may occur over the course of a single day or more gradually, over a week or two. Your food may be a little easier to digest and you may notice less heartburn.
This happy state of affairs probably signals that your baby has "dropped," as people often say--that is, he's engaged deep into your pelvis, positioning himself for labor. Also called lightening, engagement may occur for first-time moms days or even weeks before you actually give birth. For women who have had other children, engagement may not occur until you are in labor.

In your next visit to doc, you can ask for ultrasound to see the baby's position. Or some doc can just feel the tummy and know if the baby is engaged.
Regarding stillborn, I wasn't sure where to goto answer that so I am providing the answer here itself. There is no reason known so far. I have asked for an autopsy and waiting for the result. One reason could be that I had unhealthy placenta and the flow of oxygen and nutrients was not enough for the baby. You can check with your doc if he can do a doppler to see the flow of oxygen to the baby. As far as I know there is no way of finding out an unhealthy placenta. Also keep a watch on the baby's movement. My baby had stopped moving on 17 which I realised and went to the doc on 18. Hope this helps. And wish you all the best with your baby.

Alot of people it happens while in labor and some people it happens up to a month before. Its one of those things that just depends on I didn't drop till labor with both of mine so I assume I will be the same way this time.

It depends. Some babies don't drop until right before their mothers go into labor, and others are head down and engaged for months before they're born.

It really depend on the baby. when you feel them head turn down and give them a few more week and they will drop. You will feel very uncomfortable and very diffcult to walk.
