I never ask him to do anything around the house, I just ask for a little respect and I don't know how else to go about this.

Probably your first mistake is never asking him to do anything around the house. Did you move in together before he ever lived alone (I mean did he live with his mother before this?). Sometimes when men have lived with their mothers their whole lives they think that little "elves" come in the night and do all the work!
When men are "dating" women they are wonderful and then when women move in with them they take you for granted.
If you both work outside the home I'd start by making a list of the things you do - laundry, cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning the house, yard work, washing dishes, etc and ask which chores he would prefer to do.
You are entitled to "respect" of course, but you are also entitled to have someone do their share of the chores (it's not "help", they are his chores too you know!)
I'd pay very close attention to his answers, especially if you are planning to spend the rest of your life with this man - I think his response might be very revealing and you may catch a glimpse of what the next 30 years might be like.
Good Luck!

Stop doing all the things you do....he is old enough and capable of doing his own laundry and cooking......you are suppose to be his mother, his caregiver, his maid or his slave...he's a big boy...let him do it himself......he's not likely to change so you need to decide if doing those things and feeling the way you do makes you happy.....I've been there, done that......I'd say move on

evadently he doesn't respect himself so how can he respect you usually someone like that tends to want to control you and everything about you.he sounds like he's pretty self centered and cares only about himself and not you or your needs.if you try that hard and can't please him i think it's time to find someone who can appreciate you and all you do.keep your chin up girl one way or another things will work out even if it'not with him.good luck and keep smiling

Stop doing sh!t for him for at least a week, in that time look for a new place, then leave his sorry behind. After that he will GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU!!! But by then you will have moved on! -the end

Kick him to the curb! If he has no respect for you then why are you cleaning up after him?

If he's not doing it now, he's never gonna do it. Kick his sorry behind out.

Lose him.............find someone more to your standards who makes you feel cherished.
He will appreciate you when you are gone but that will be too late.

I doubt he ever will notice. He sounds selfish and probably won't change
