The point is to FEEL like you're making a point, even though you really have none.

Most people hold opinions that they have inherited or adopted without thinking about them. These people are usually so ignorant of the background information that supports their views that when they speak of these opinions they invite insult. Insults may cause the person to think of reasons for holding their stated views or to abandon them under consideration of that opinion the attack brings about.Beside with listening to some like the shrub you can only insult them as you know that reasoned arguments fall on deaf ears anyway. When God has spoken to someone you can only stand mute, which is usually seen as agreement with them or insult them and their opinions to show that they are wrong.

Not me, the actual facts are on my side, but if they were not, and my party stole elections and went to war on a pack of lies, I might insult people to throw them off balance, wouldn't I? Does any Network other than Fox News invite people to be interviewed and tell them to "Shut UP!!," as O'Reilly and Hannity do?
Has any other group named every bill with a name the opposite of what the bill does? Is this normal, or acceptable to you?
"The Patriot Act" lessens freedom? The "Clear Skies
Act" LOWERS pollution standards?

I have no problem with someone else's political views as long as they are genuine and not just some flap that they've repeated from some other mindless mentor. If they are actually knowledgable on their topic, regardless if they are political or otherwise, I respect those opinions even if they differ from my own.

People who get insulting over politics are idiots. They divide the country and burn bridges so that when they lose thier political battles, they likewise lose thier influence in the future.

They say the squeeky wheel gets the grease, but sometimes the louder it gets, the more we learn to ignore it.

I think the insulting results from an atavistic urge, a residual behavious left over from the primitive times, when anything different often meant a threat to survival.

Of course nowadays many of us are finding that a more rational approach, seeking consensus, cooperation, and tolerance is a better strategy for survival.

To try to make them think what it is like on the other side. May not work real well but it is an attempt.

Only reason can alter an opinion. Insults alters the person (by making him mad), but does not alter an opinon.
