Nothing pro about getting a sun tan. If you get tanned by the sun it means your skin has been burned by the sun's rays. Eventually this burn can cause skin cancer.
When my wife and I were kids, teenagers, it was a badge of honor to get as dark a tan as we could - even rubbed on baby oil with iodine in it to hasten and extend the tanning effect.
We both have had numerous skins cancers and surgery to remove them. But man, did we look good when we were younger!
However, the sun's rays are good for you - in moderation - providing various beneficial vitamins. Just do your sunning early or late in the day, and if you must be out in between those times, use a strong sunblock (blocks ultra violate rays that burns the tender skin). Check out the no-no times for your area by asking around, or asking your doctor.
Probably best deal is to use some sort of self tanning lotion you can buy at the groceries or drug stores.
And I'm told - absolutely no tanning booths.

I guess a tan can mean a few things. To me, it means that I've been out in the sunshine, mostly every day, engaging in some physical activity. The sunshine provides my body with Vitamin D, which is good for my bones and can actually help prevent cancer. I've been careful not to burn. Some people who labor outside every day probably wish they wouldn't have such a tan, either from the sun or wind. Using a tanning cream is a personal decision. I used to use it all the time in the spring when I was younger.

The tan itself is damaged skin. As you get older you'll age faster than people who don't get tans. Also, the sun and/or tanning booth exposure can cause you to get cancer.
I've been sitting here trying to figure out a pro, but I can't come up with one. My husband is sitting on the other side of the desk from me and I can look up and see this bloody hole on his face where he had skin cancer burned off again. He's also had it cut out of his nose and had plastic surgery to cover the hole, but it made his nose crooked. He got skin cancer just by working an outside job. He worked in a telephone bucket truck. Skin cancer is no fun! If you could talk to him right now, he'd tell you how much pain his whole face has been in since he had that burned off last week.

It depends. If you mean a fake tan, as in a tanning booth, the risks are still the same as a natural tan, because you are exposed to cancer-causing UV rays. The safest tan is a spray-on tan, because it doesn't expose you to anything dangerous.
Remember, use sunscreen, skin cancer can be treated, but you shouldn't take pointless risks.

okay regular "lay-out" tans make you look better but cause can cause serious damaging results to your skin.including cancer.
spray on tans and rub on tans keep you away from that sun but can look fake and orange and is a hassle and also can cause cancer, think about it, harsh chemicals are being put on your skin, same thing with sunblock!!!
-recent studies show that there is more skin cancer in america than anywhere and we also use more sunscreeen than anyone, think about it...
if i was you i wouldnt lay out, just dont put a whole lot of sunscreeen and go out on a aregular basis and you'll gradually tan, so its a real tan and your not sittin in the sun, asking for cancer!!!
good luck!

There really are no pros to tanning. The greatest con, is that when you tan, it is just like being roasted , like the Thanksgiving Day turkey. If you don't believe me, talk to ANY dermatologist.
