I keep seeing college and pro football players wearing thin, tight bands on their arms, usually below the biceps or sometimes above the forearm. What are they for?

i read the first three posts and i'm thinking about something different... the armbands i'm asking about are only about 1/4 inch thick. i kindof think they are supposed to restrict blood flow and make the guys' muscles look bigger. what do you think?

The bands you are describing are designed to eliminate the gap between the sleeve and the arm. This is so that opposing players have a more difficult time grabbing the arms...especially when trying to knock the ball out of a players hands.

Well quarterbacks wear them to read plays off their arm and everyone else probably just look cool in them. Some wear gloves for better grip and stuff though.
