There are non-toxic, sticky strips for catching flies you can buy in a local hardware store or grocery market. They're little tubes that contain a wound up sticky film that you stretch out and use the tack that comes in the package to hang it in an out-of-the-way spot. It attracts them, they land and stick. No poison, but can catch in your hair....oops. And you do have to remove them when they're full. They really do work, esp in places where you are cooking or canning and don't want anything to contaminate your product. Inexpensive and they start working quickly. Keep fruit that's getting overripe or bad tossed out. Don't feed the flies. Best of luck!

Coat the inside of a Mason jar with a sticky liquid like diluted honey or vegetable oil. Invert the jar over a bait such as crushed bananas. Rest the jar upside down on two blocks of wood to allow flies space enough to feed on the bait. After leaving the bait, they fly upwards to the light portion of the jar, rest on the sides and are killed or get stuck.

Take a small shallow dish and fill with apple cider vinegar, add 2 drops of dishwashing liquid. Do not stir. Sit somewhere out of the way. The vinegar attracts them and the dishwashing liquid prevents them from being able to fly away after being in the vinegar. Works great!

wash the fruits in salty water. It won't spoil the taste and it ...sanitize the skins so the fruit flies do not show up that quickly. by that time, you've eaten the fruits!
