If the light does not come on that means there is a problem with the power supply. Look at peripherals that give electric supply.
1. If you have an AVR or UPS connected see if it works (you can do this by putting another electrical gadget to see if it the other gadget works)
2. See if the cord connected to the computer is TIGHTLY CONNECTED
3. If it is the computer that is not showing the light and not the monitor then it is the power supply inside the computer (this is less than 10 bucks to replace if your computer is a desktop if it is a laptop it requires this is harder to replace by your self)

You probably need a new monitor, you can buy them at used computer stores for about $15 and up.

Check ALL your Electrical cords ,make sure all are plugged in....Try plugging the computer into a different outlet ..

make sure all your cables are connected securely. u might have a bad power supply. take it to a repair shop if your still having problems.

if its a desktop,could be the fan which is busted causing overheating...take it to computer shop for them to check it out....

is it laptop or desktop?
if laptop- the backlight (replace lcd) or replace inverter
if desktop- could be motherboard issue
