Because black women can go a week or two before we need to wash ours.

For some of the ignorant people who answered. Black women's hair don't have a lot of oil, that's why we need to add oil to our hair. Less oil attracts less dirt also. Our hair doesn't smell sour or anything unless it's been a week or two. Depends on the hair products we use. I just wanted to know about white women's hair because a met a white girl who said she doesn't wash her hair everyday she washes it once a week.

TO CLEAR THIS UP- TO A WHITE PERSON THIS QUESTION MAY SEEM OFFENSIVE, BUT IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD EXPOSURE TO THE WHITE RACE HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHY WHITE PEOPLE WASH THEIR HAIR SO MUCH? NEXT- WHAT MAKE HAIR DIRTY AND SMELLY IS THE ACCUMULATION OF OILS. THIS ATTRACTS DEAD SKINS CELLS AND SOILS TO STICK TO THE HAIR FOLICLE- SO IF A PERSON WITH OILY HAIR DOES NOT WASH IT- IT CAN GET DIRTY QUICKER- PLUS IT LOOKS STRINGY...NO MATTER WHAT RACE THEY ARE...IF YOU HAVE DRY HAIR YOU MAY NOT NEED TO WASH IT AS MUCH BECAUSE SOIL, MOSTURE ETC. DOES NOT RETAIN IN THE HAIR TO MAKE IT DIRTY.....ARTIFICIALLY APPLIED MOSTURISERS DRY UP IN THE HAIR BEFORE THEY CAN ACCUMLATE TO A DEGREE THAT WOULD CAUSE BAD SMELLS OR EXCESSIVE DIRT BUILD UP. MANY HAIR DRESSERS DO NOT EVEN RECOMMED THE EXCESSIVE WASHING OF DRY BRITTLE HAIR- IT CAN MAKE IT EVEN MORE FRAGILE AND DRY.

I have to wash mine every other day, but it varies - remember, caucasian/white women have all different backgrounds. One of my friends was white as white could be, but she was also of Italian descent and had to wash her hair twice a day or it looked like it had never been washed at all.

Incidentally, you know those little cornrow/mini-braid things that are so popular with black women and girls? I did my hair that way once, and left it in until the roots started growing out (about six weeks before it became noticeable). When I took my hair out, I had to wash it only because it was insanely frizzy. It wasn't greasy or dirty at all! So I'd say it depends on where you live, what your ethnic descent is, and so on.

It is recommended that we shampoo every other day to let the natural oils distribute through the hair. But me personally, I can go about 4 days or so before it starts looking oily, and it's hard to style. From working on clients with different ethnicity's, I have gathered that a lot of white woman will produce a lot of oil daily. Sometimes black women do not produce as much oil as white women. But this is not always true. Everyones oil producing rate is different and varies. Also- African American hair has a different texture from white women. But this goes for all races, everyones hair is different from person to person.

Do you get dandruff from not washing your hair very often? Also, what about the smell from an unwashed scalp? My hair is super fine and it seems like the finer and less curly a person's hair is the more the oily buildup shows. I deffinitely need to wash mine every day because of the oily buildup, plus the buildup of products. Not to mention the oily, dirty hair smell after two or three days.

Well, I'm black and I wash my hair everyday. I have to because I exercise daily and sometimes my head is on the floor with sit ups. I wear my hair wet and pulled back, so by the next day...it will need to be rewashed to smell and look fresh again.

If I do not wash my hair every other day, my head itches, my face itches, hair smells bad because my head sweats, hair is oily and I just do not feel clean. My hair also looks better when I wash it every day.

I was talking to my black boyfriend about this the other day. It is a whole lot more trouble for a black person to wash their hair every day. He has to put 3 different things on his head to keep from flaking. He is always saying "how does my hair look" is it ok. does it look messy............It always looks fine to me.

I'd say it gets oily and stuff. oo; But uhm.. It kind of gets sour if you don't wash it for like a week and if someone hugs you and smells your hair. Ew. xD It's kind of nasty. It's also easy to get dirty. I mean... Who knows what we do in a week. Right? Besides...It'll look weird,I guess. I normally wash my hair every other day..since it's curly and doesn't always need to be washed every single day. ^_^ I can't brush it all the time either. o_o;; ...Who likes hair that gets poofy and looks like an afro when you brush it? For a white girl,anyways... Heh. Get what I mean?

If I use product in my hair that day, I wash it that evening or the next morning. If I don't put any product in it, I can go about 2-3 days before the hair near the scalp gets oily.

Actually, we would be better not to wash our hair so much, because it washes away all the natural oils and damages the hair. But I have to admit...I can't stand not to wash it every day. It just feels gross to me if I don't.

But to answer your question....nothing would happen except that it might go a bit flat.

2nd question on "white women". any particular reason? my hair is fine if i don't was it for a week or two. It never is greasy if that's what you want to know. BUT i have to wash it often or i feel dirty. I see no reason to not wash it while i am showering, it is so easy and fast to do.
