Nature provides your solution. Here in Texas the pecans usually start falling when the first norther arrives. The norther brings winds that shake the pecan tree branches enough to dislodge the pecans and down they come. It's fun and good exercise to gather and the shelled pecans make wonderful pies.
Good gathering and I hope you have a big crop.

I grew up across form a pecan grove. The owner would wait for all of the husks to open, exposing the nut. Then he would shake the tree with a rope, and an old pick-up. He collected the nuts in a net he spread under the tree.

It has nothing to do with her race. What would you tell a White woman? Or a Chinese woman. What you say is, not rudely, but in a puzzled tone, "Oh, excuse me - sorry - we didn't engage anyone to help us today. You must be looking for another address. May I call somebody for you, or should I see you to the street? I can call a cab, if you'd like." Then either call the number of the place for which the person is looking, or call the cab, and/or help him/her to the street. If you don't make use of your pecans it may be a nice gesture to offer picking on shares (50/50) or just letting the person take them. If you are not using them it seems a shame to waste them all.

Pecans in Georgia start falling off the tree in October/November. Ignore the early drops. They're immature fruit. Down here the farmers have attachments on their tractors to grip the trees and shake them.

What do you tell a white person who is picking your pecans? Are they your personal pecans from your personal trees on your private property? Next time I saw her out there, I would take a stroll in that general direction at a non-aggressive pace. If she sees you, wave to her and tell her you're coming out to have a chat. Introduce yourself. Tell her these are your trees and you don't want to have to report her for trespassing. Explain the situation. Do you sell these pecans? Do you harvest them or use them in any way? I doesn't sound like there's anyone else out there picking them, but I may be wrong in that regard. Maybe make some sort of deal with her. My husband and I planted mint in an area on our property, mainly for its ability to proliferate so readily, smell nice, and stop erosion. I didn't use the mint other than to snip off a piece or two for iced tea on occasion. Nearly every morning, my husband would see an Indian woman trimming off pieces of mint. I approached her one morning and she was very scared I was going to yell at her or order her off my property, but I told her don't be afraid, I'm not angry, I'm just wondering what you're doing. She explained to me that she used a lot of fresh mint in her cooking and the stuff at the local grocery was not so good. Since we weren't using it, I told her to feel free to come over and snip as much mint as she liked whenever she wanted, and no longer be afraid. She was so pleasant and so thankful. In return, we received some very nice dishes she prepared using our mint. It was a win-win situation, and we ended up becoming friends.

You usually don't need to pick pecans from a tree. They will drop when they are ready. They make special tools for retrieving them from the ground, kind of like a spring clamp basket. Once it gets cooler, walk around your yard in your bare feet, you'll feel them. But try to do it regularly or the squirrels will stash them. But I have found a few squirrel stashes and retrieved my pecans!

pecans, whether native(thicker shells) or developed varieties should fall easily in a good breeze. Shake a branch a bit, if the nuts fall,it is time.
