Sorry I have to laugh at the people who think mosquito bites are bad and truly I do not believe Wikijo was bitten by a mosquito... lol I live in Canada and I can tell you I have been bitten by more mosquitos and blackflies than I could possibly count, they are annoying and itchy but not at all painful unless you are a wimp...LMAO Also I find it hard to believe a Horse fly bite would be incapacitating as I have been bitten by them countless times as well as Deer flies, both take quite a chunk out of your skin but it really doesn't hurt either and they don't even itch at all. I have also been bitten by a carpenter ant and it hurt more than all the others I have mentioned but still did not compare to when I had a bumblebee inside my shirt that bit me 3 times, that hurt pretty bad(although not long), another time I had a bumblebee bite me right on the nipple and that was probably the worst bite I have ever gotten and it only hurt for maybe 2 seconds with no other effect.
Still that cannot compare with some of the more dangerous bugs like the Giant water bug, Their bite is, not surprisingly, widely considered the most painful that can be inflicted by any insect (the infamous Schmidt Sting Pain Index excludes insects other than Hymenoptera; a belostomatid bite can be much more excruciating than anything in Schmidt's list); the longer the bug is allowed to inject its saliva, the worse the resulting bite, and as the saliva liquefies muscle tissue, it can do serious permanent damage. I sincerely hope I never cross a Giant water bugs path and get bitten!!
You might be interested to check out the Schmidt sting pain index... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schmidt_Sting_Pain_Index
I consider myself lucky to have never been stung or bitten really bad and the ant and bumblebee bites I had really only hurt for maybe 2 minutes, and didnt even hurt after 20 minutes or so. I dont even consider a mosquito a bite really, guess I am just used to it same as blackflies, horseflies and deerflies... annoying but not painful in any way... they are at least considerate enough to use a painkiller...lol

A mosquito - like bite by a mosquito or unknown insect on the back of right leg. Leg started to swell & turn pink 3 days after bite & it was painful to walk. Doctor lanced it & withdrew all sorts of blood, pus, other fluid. Could not get it wet for 2 weeks while it healed.
Still have the scar.

once i was walking through the woods, just strolling, you know and this big old bug, about the size of a rabbit or a possum fell out of the tree and i was going to pick him up and put him back up on the limb so he would be okay, and when i bent over to pick him up he bit me right on the finger. he had real sharp teeth and almost took my finger off but i wrapped a piece of my shirt around it and drove to the hospital, almost passing out and they saved my finger but i still have nightmares about it. and that's the thanks i get for trying to help a bug. the next time a giant bug falls ouy of a tree i'm just going to say , "sorry, dude, but i'm not helping you". nobody believes me and that hurts almost as bad as the bug bite. please don't say you don't believe me because that is the truth if i have ever told it. good bye for now. there's something with big green eyes peeping in my window. it's either a monster or my mother-in-law. gosh, i hope it's a monster.

Not a single bite, but once when I went camping I was attacked by mosquitoes and had about 50 bites on each leg, not to mention the rest of my body. I'm allergic to the posion so they swelled up huge and I itched for weeks. It was miserable.

It was not a bite , but I was stung by a green caterpillar that had red spines on it . This was more painful than any bee or wasp that I have ever been stung by . The next worse was when I un-knowingly stood in a fire ant mound (aaarrrggghhh ) .!!!!!

deer tick in Northeastern USA from Boston south....
It's a little tiny tick so small you can hardly see it, and you probably wont notice it biting you. You might get a little rash after a few days, but then later you get Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a debilitating disease that cause months of pain, arthritis, and in the case of one of my son's teachers, death. So, in our area, that is the bug you watch out for.

It wasn't a bite but a sting by one of those Japanese giant hornets. One nailed me on the leg while I was riding my motorcycle. Felt like someone was putting a cigar out on my leg. Looked like a golf ball was under the skin...ouch !

I got bit by a horse fly on my foot. It swelled up so bad, I couldn't get a shoe on. I missed a day of work. The only day of work I've missed in 32 years.
