i had to deal with this too. here are a few things u can do...
1) speed reading is all about seeing groups of words at once instead of one-by-one. it's hard at first...just keep seeing groups.

2) prioritize ur reading. look at titles/first sentences and don't read them if it sounds too trivial...use lecture notes/homework questions to guide u in what seems important. then if u have time, go back and read the trivial sections.

3) there's several computer programs that help u speed read...my friend used them and worked. (i'm sorry i don't remember what it's called...maybe Eye-Q)
here's Eye-Q's website:
https://www.asseenontvnetwork.com/vcc/eyeq/eyeq/131238/
they give u eye exercises and more tips.

4) avoid taking >2 classes that require a lot of reading like literature classes. take math or science classes with them...or take a humanities class that does not require too many books.

You can try to get into the book.Or you can read two books at once.First read one word from one book then from the other.Do this again and again untill you finish the book.Or you can try to schedule a period of time for reading.

Of course u can read faster if u concentrate and understand what u read.
