If you mean in Blackjack, it just gives you an edge over the casino. You keep track of if there are more low cards in the deck or high cards. If you know more high cards are in the deck (lots of low cards coming out), then you have the advantage because the dealer will bust out more. If there are more low cards (lots of high cards coming out), then the dealer has the edge cuz he can make more hands to beat your hand.
if you have this information, you vary your bet accordingly. Bet high when you have the advantage, bet low when you don't. But the casino usually can tell if you are counting cards because of you varrying your bet. hope that helps..good luck

By knowing that (for example) the first card is a King of Spades, the second card is a 10 of Hearts, the third card is a 3 of Diamonds, etc., you can know exactly who will draw which card based on the order of play.

You'd do it with black jack to keep track of how many 10's and face cards are still in the deck (if you could, you'd keep track of everything). That way, you'd know exactly what your odds were for getting the cards you need, and if you should hit or stay.
