Most of my clothing is made out of stretchy fabric woven in cotton, which makes for baggy clothes after they get dried out on the line. I know, I know, I should get a dryer already because it's not the dark ages, but I just don't have one (yet).

From what I've read so far, clothing can be shrunk back to its original size if they're put in the dryer on high heat. Has anyone ever done this? Has anyone ever successfully shrunk clothing that had been stretched by drying out on the line?

And just to quell my fears and doubts... is it safe to dry clothes at such a high heat? Will it damage the clothing? Will the colors fade? Will the clothes burn up?!

Thanks y'all. =]

ok, I was a master of shrinking clothes and now I have it all figured out how NOT to shrink them. There are only 2 main things to remember: 1) WASH: cold, wrinkle free setting, use detergent that will work in cold water (like ERA, TIDE) 2) DRY: put it on one of the colder settings and do not dry to completion! dry them about half way and then hang them up outside or inside on one of those drying racks (you can buy them Walmart, Target), it should take around a day to dry Remember, shrinking is all about the heat. keep temps away from warm/hot and you'll be okay

Wash your clothes in super hot water and use the Woolite laundry soap to prevent stretch. (in addition to drying the clothes)

I would put into your washing machine under hot water (hot water shrinks stuff), and use Tide.
