There was one ground wire (copper) and three black wires. I only hooked up two of the black wires to the switch and left the other one attached to nothing. That was how the old switch was (I think).

First thing you need to check the circut breaker. you may have blown the breaker while doing the dimer. you should only have two wires on the dimer and it will work no matter which one you attach to either screw on the switch only you should put the white wire to the chrome screw and the black wirs to the copper screw. be careful that you dont get shocked if you are not ezperience with the wiring.

you hooked the feeds in the box up wrong. call someone who knows a little bit to help because without seeing what is in there nobody can help.

Check all the breakers, and also check for a ground fault outlet, it may be tripped as well.

did you short out a fuse? are you using too many amps or watts?
