The most expensive areas are probably Mayfair and Belgravia in Central London. Other desirable places would be Notting Hill, Hampstead, Primrose Hill, Chelsea. It does depend on what you are looking for and what some people may regard as desirable others may not so its very subjective.

I always wanted to live around Canary Wharf. It's frightfully expensive there, but there's so much to do, you have tons of shopping within easy walking distance, and the rail is right there. It's a revitalized area, so it has that hip, cutting edge feel to it.
