I wonder why.
Why would they subject a baby to the pain of piercing, the pain of cleaning the earlobes every day with rubbing alcohol, the discomfort of sleeping on that hard nugget in their ear?
Why would they take all choice in the matter away from their child? Shouldn't they wait until the child is at least old enough to express a desire to have pierced ears? What if they never would have wanted their ears pierced?
Why put expensive jewelry in a child's ear, when children lose stuff all the time? Why put something tiny in a baby's earlobe, when it could come out and be swallowed?
That's what I think.

I cringe! I used to work for the Disney Store while I was in college. There was an earring/piercing kiosk right outside our store. People would bring like their little newborn baby girls and get their ears pierced. You could hear those poor babies scream a mile away. They have no concept of wearing pierced earrings or any other jewelry at that age. All they know is is hurts! Come on, babies that little are so cute anyway, they don't need pierced ears. Save it for when they're older.

I once passed a assessory shop and saw a young child screaming the place down after having one ear pierced...The girl was howling! But the family were adamant that she would have the second done! The young girl piercing looked white as a sheet! I had mine done at 5 years old but to this day since then I can't agree with it done on babies and very young infants!

Totally depends on the child... if they resent you for doing something totally unnecessary to them because you "fancied doing it" without so much as a "by your leave".
My ex wife had my young daughters done. I wasn't annoyed at the fact that she didn't consult me, but that the kids didn't get a say...
Circumsicion is done to young males for either religious and/or medical reasons, but ear/nose/body piercing is not necessary in the UK.
If my parents had pierced me as a baby, I would have taken the view that they never respected what my wishes in the future would be, and that they could do what they like with my body.
Perhaps Parents who pierce their children are "marking their territory" or telling their kids, subconciously, "I'm the Boss, I can do what I like to you, and you can't do a thing about it", or "You will look the way I want you to look, and if you don't like it, tough".
How would you feel if your kids gave you a tattoo you didn't want whilst you were asleep?
Or, medically speaking, am I making something out of nothing, can body piercings completely heal without scars etc with a short period?

I think it's cute. I had my ears pierced when I was 6 months old, my daughter's ears were pierced at 3 months. She cried for about 3 minutes, after that she was fine, and she never messed with them. Just as long as the baby has studs large enough so that it doesn't push through their ear...I've seen that happen before, not a pretty site...

Is this a "how do the parents know what the baby wants" question? because if it is...
maybe they should let babies pick out their own clothes.. and what food they want to eat too.. maybe even what music they like to listen to?
Babies and even children don't know what they want.. they don't care.. they don't have a say. Parents are called PARENTS for a reason. They make all decisions for their child. Dont be liberal and say.. ohh well maybe the baby doesn't want their ears peirced... i'm willing to guess the baby doesn't give two shits right now. Think about it.

I don't think a childs ears should be pierced until they're old enough to make that decision. I think it's kind of mean, and the parents are obviously trying to show off or something.

i think it looks awful, a baby isn't a fashion accessory, let the child decide to have ears pierced when they are old enough,if the parents like ear piercing, then pierce their own instead

I think its ridiculous! What does a baby need with ear piercings? That is just poor parenting if you ask me. They can get snagged or infected a lot easier than an adult would.

I've never seen a baby with ear piercings, and I don't want to! You're not seriously thinking about deforming you're baby are you?
