People to People is a really great program, and no it is not a scam. I was supposed to go to Australia a couple of summers ago, but the whole SARS thing prevented the trip from happening. You do actually get high school credits for it, and since you're a student ambassador you learn so much about the country you're going to and you get hands on experience.
I really recommend that you go if you got an invitation; it's really hard to find good programs like these!
Good luck! Hope you take the chance!

I had a friend who was in that. I got a letter for it but my mom said it was a scam. She actually went to a different country and stuff.
