i have used a website and quated from it in a journal artical i have writton how do i reference it in the text and biblogrophy as i am used to Footnotes and can find no examples of websites i have tryed their site but they seem to want me to buy an expencive book and offer little online help

Also, APA doesn't use footnotes, but endnotes. So that could be your problem. If your article was "How to Get Your Cat to Not Sleep on Your Keyboard" by Toby The Cat, you would write it like this.
"Some suggestions to get your cat to sleep in his or her own bed are purchasing several pillows and cat beds to place in every room of the house, making sure that you give your cat plenty of cuddle time, and bribe him or her with food (Cat 26)".
Then in the works cited page it would be:
Cat, T. (2006). How to Get Your Cat to Not Sleep on Your Keyboard. Journal of Feline Psychology, 32:1, 23+ . Retrieved September 20, 2006 from Scholar.google.com

There is no online source that would be as accurate as the "expensive book" you refer to in your question.
APA formatting is very specific and online resources will not be at the level of accuracy that is required at the college level.
Check on spell checking your documents too!
And, for the record, the two other answers above - are wrong. The first doesn't cite her resource properly AT ALL, and APA is not necessarily a "scientific paper" as another one answered either.
Get the book - borrow from the library if you need to - but don't take shortcuts.
I teach undergraduate students and am a PhD student - trust me, I know this stuff!
