Many Lebanese I have spoken to advocate a move such as this despite the negative record Syria has in Lebanon.

No. It wont happen because the majority of Lebanese would be against it. They took to the streets rejoicing when the Syrian troops pulled out. The Lebanese simply want their own country.
Unity amongst Arab countries is a difficult issue. Egypt and Syria formed the United Arab Brotherhood but due to mistrust on both sides it quickly collapsed. Where you have such a political unity one party will be stronger than the other and will try to dictate terms.
In this case Syria would be the stronger partner and would have the greater influence. That is a road the Lebanese wouldn't want to go down again.

why you want that ? you are talking to people who have interest with syrians. but majority of lebanese hate the syrian regime and its bloody record . when this family ( asad) leave the power everything will go back to normal and no need for unite. and as i am lebanese i will not accept less then a revenge from the murderers of asad family.

well am lebanese... and last time i checked the leboes would prefer to DIE than beein united under one political body if it were with syria or even USA for tht matter... lebanese ppl are only governed by leboes its as simple as tht and we have not and will not tolerate anything other than tht simple fact

as for the media and wht u THINK is going on well am sorry to inform you.. but its all bulls**
the only LEBANESE ppl ( supposed to b lebanese) who realy wants to b as one with syria are the SYRIANS themselves who got theyre lebo citizenships during the syrian occupation for this purpose ONLY.

Things like that should always be left up to the people of the countries it concerns.

If you believe the media here, the people of Lebanon would want that, but if they do want that then why not.
