Full screen is 4:3 and wide screen is 16:9.

16:9 is better for movies because you can see the entire movie. 4:3 cuts off the edges. Of course if you have a small 4:3 television it could make the 16:9 view seem too small for your screen

16:9 is wide screen. I tend to prefer 4:3 myself for shooting photos - just because my eye is accustomed to it and I can more easily compose 4:3 shots in my head before pressing the shutter. But for panorama landscapes 16:9 is the way to go.

4:3 is your standard SVGA, or super VGA format, which is 800x600 pixels. 16:9 is the newer high definition, 1920 x1080. This is wide screen compared to SVGA.
Normal TV in the US is 720x486 and is the NTSC D1 format. I do computer animation and this is most of what we are still using as a format; occasionally things have to be done in hi-def.

16:9 is more in line with the way movies are filmed, so it's much better for movies.
