Marijuana used to be legal in the United States up until the early 1900s. It seems the same problem we have now with the people of Mexico coming into this county illegally existed then.. The government wanted to stop them so they came up with this ingenious plan. The government told everyone that the Mexicans were horrible people who smoked marijuana and because of this the whole country was going to fall into rack and ruin. They even made a crazy movie called Reefer Madness to scare the general public. Scare them enough to make marijuana growing, selling and using a felony crime. It seems their plan didn't work as the Mexicans keep coming and people continue to smoke pot.

That is a good question. Alcohol is by far more evil than marijuana. The government makes too much money off of people by keeping it illegal. They wouldn't be able to control the manufacturing the way they can alcohol because weed is easier to grow than alcohol is to make. If people would smoke weed rather than drink, the world would be a much happier place.

Alcohol is easy to tax. Marijuana can be grown almost anywhere and would be almost impossible to tax. It all comes down to money. Marijuana has been demonized because of money. Also the corrupt politicians don't want to see marijuana legalized because their friends in organized crime will lose a ton of money from loss of marijuana sales that would now be legitimate.

good question if marijuana was legal we would not have M.A.D.D. and the effects of marijuana is nothing like that of alcohol to impair ones ability to comphrend, or the agility to walk a straight line.

Because Randolph Herst spent millions of dollars building a paper mill that would use wood pulp. However, since paper from wood pulp is coarse compaired to hemp, he managed to get hemp made illegal so he'd make his money back- and thats the real story why cannabis is illegal.

Simply because marijuana can be grown buy anyone and no one would profit from it and plus its a gate-way drug, and alcohol has to be made in factories, by people with money, and everyone doesn't have that.

It was legal until William Randolph Hearst lobbied to change the law and did succeed in his efforts; so we have a law making it "illegal" to this present day. Politics, self-serving powerful people, power, taxes, corruption and money. That about sums it up.

because alcohol can be controlled and taxed by the govt, Mary jane cant. Almost everyone can get seeds to grow on their own. The govt doesnt have control over the distribution or sale of mj.It comes down to "he who has control, has the power"

Because any idiot can grow weed. there is no way to tax it. But with alcohol it is easier to go to the 7-11 and get it than make your own. So the tax man gets his cut.
