Unfortunately, there are not to many books out there on modern tokens. GM over the years has had several different types made up for them. I doubt it is very rare. Usually the rare types are older and have to do with small companies, or lets say small stores. You could try the token and medal society, just type there name into google and you should be able to get there site. You can also try Yahoo groups for there are some medal and token groups out there. Getting info from GM may not be easy since it is from the 1950's as you said. No harm in checking with them. In my experience it is probably worth a few dollars. I bought a silver education medal at a flea market for $5.00 and it was made in1892, I was lucky to have the NYC historical society help me with it.

You might try contact GM to see if they will tell you about it. You might get lucky and they may want to buy it from you. Have you searched on Ebay just in case?
