Led Zeppelin died as a band when John Bonham (drummer) died in 1980. They disbanded very shortly afterward, saying they could not continue as a band without him. Page and Plant have done some work together, but mostly the remaining members went their seperate ways.

How and when did John Bonham die?

On 24 September 1980, Bonham left Worcestershire to meet with the group at Bray studios for rehearsals for the upcoming US tour. He consumed a steady diet of quadruple screwdrivers along the way. After the rehearsals, the band retreated to Page's Windsor house where Bonham continued to drink and then passed out. At around 1:45pm on 25 September, sound technician and Plant roadie Benji Le Fevre checked on Bonham to find out why he hadn't stirred. There was no pulse. A doctor arrived and pronounced Bonham dead at the scene. A subsequent coroner's inquest revealed the cause of death
to be accidental -- Bonham choked on his own vomit after drinking the equivalent of 40 measures of vodka. Alcohol poisoning may have been involved, but was not positively determined. On 4 December 1980, Led Zeppelin issued the following statement "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we have for his family, together with the sense ofundivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were."

Yes John Bonham the drummer died of asphixiation of his own vomit, from drinking way too much alcohol in one night. This is the reason that the band disbanded in the first place. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page still record but mostly with other people.

The question should be, "Why do high school students still like Led Zeppelin ?" What exactly is instilling in these students the idea that thi band is to be elevated among all other rock bands ? I would habve thought that by 1990, surely, when everyone's younger brother would have graduated, the older brother's influence would have disappeared from the high school scene. Does this music actually have any value in the 21st century and, if so, how is their image promulgated among the teen set currently ? The stupid naked man with angel wings, is he still around ? It's hard to believe the iconography of Led Zeppelin is still attractive to young students.
