Get a job on campus or close to your house. Check with the Student Union, Food Services, Library Services, Athletics or Campus Security. They often hire students and can give you a flexible schedule around your classes. I work part-time in the Education library on my campus. It's great because I meet lots of other people in my program, PLUS I'm making lots of connections with teachers and principals in the city! Look for something related to your field of study if possible, to max out networking opportunities.

You should get a job on campus! I am a freshman on campus and don't have transportation, but I work at the grocery store on campus. It's not $9.00 an hour or anything, but it's a little disposible money! And my job's not work study, it's non-work study. There's probably infinite options, you just have to search. You could also sell things on eBay, or donate plasma to the local blood bank, just take the bus. Hope this helps!

Walk around to the various academic departments at your school to see if faculty and graduate students have put out used books as give-away. If yes, then you could pick those up and put them up for sale on Half and Amazon.

The answer also depends on your skills. If you speak a foreign language then you could offering tutoring. If you're really good at a certain area (like math) then you could offer tutoring in that. Or if you play a musical instrument, try tutoring for that.

Guess what, all of the jobs you can get in college will pay about the same as work study. i worked two part time jobs one semester to make ends meet--one was work study and the other as a job in a pharmacy. Stop whining and work. Work study is a great opportunity to work on campus and many college students don't have transportation.l

I did work study and made plenty. You could offer tutoring or sell your used textbooks online. Have a friend drive you and donate plasma or your eggs.
