When I had my thyroid out a few days later my calcium levels bottomed out and I had tingly hands and feet - my surgeon said this was quite common after they thyroid is removed and I had to stay in hospital for a couple more days on really high doses of calcium then had to stay on this for about a month after I left hospital by then my body started producing it again on its own so I know the thyroid effects calcium levels somehow but Im not sure how - but it might give you a place to start looking. "The intracellular matrix of bone tissue is rich in calcium salts, mostly in the form of calcium phosphate. Vital metabolic processes require calcium. When the blood is low in calcium, parathyroid hormone stimulates osteoclasts to break down bone tissue, which releases calcium salts from the intracellular matrix into the blood. A high blood calcium level inhibits osteoclast activity, and calcitonin from the thyroid gland stimulates osteoblasts to form bone tissue, storing excess calcium in the matrix."
