6 answers

10y = 2y - 6y + 7
10y = -4y + 7 <-- combine like terms (2y and -6y)
14y = 7 <-- add 4y to both sides to cancel the -4y
y = 0.5 <-- divide both sides by 14

If you plug 0.5 back into the problem to check the answer, you get...

10(0.5) = 2(0.5) - 6(0.5) + 7
5 = 1 - 3 + 7 <-- multiply
5 = 5 <-- combine like terms
Correct!

Best wishes!
