My baby is due on Jan 3, 2007 according to ultrasound. but according to my LMP and when i started ovulating last- she should be due the 26th of december this year. i go to college and want to have enough time between break (dec 15- jan 15) to have baby and recover before classes start again. i can't afford to take a break off for a semester neither, so not an option.

You people are answering like im wanting to have it a month early- this truely shows your ignorance. I'm talking about 3-5 days before due date. if you don't have a good answer, keep your OPINIONS to yourself!

I don't know why everyone is jumping on your case. You're not asking to induce your baby before it's too soon! While I do believe it's best to let the baby come whenever he/she is ready, babies are considered "full term" after 38 weeks to 42 weeks. You're not asking to induce anytime before that safe period.
Some things a person can do to bring about labor when it's alot closer to the due date is by having sexual intercourse (semen can bring on contractions), nipple stimulation, some women drink castor oil or give themselves enemas (not something I'd recommend - who wants diarrhea along w/ labor???), eating spicy foods, or vigorously walking around the neighborhood.
Doctors can also induce with either a cervical gel or with Pitocin via IV.
FYI- "induced" contractions are a lot more intense & usuallymore painful than regular natural contractions.
Good luck!

Get evening primrose oil. Evening primrose oil, when applied to the cervix, will cause the cervix to soften. This oil is also used for women who have very bad menstrual cramps. It doesn't work immediately, and can take a few weeks to work. And, it doesn't work for everyone. Don't start until you're at least 36 weeks along, as having a full term baby is beneficial to baby's health (brain & body).

You can get it in capsules. Walgreens has a buy one get one free special this week, actually. You can take the pills orally (like 2 a day), but research shows that it doesn't work as well. Open the capsules, and put the oil directly on your cervix. From what I've found, one site actually recommends using an organic tampon to insert - just apply the oil on the tampon. Or, what some suggest, is to punch holes in the capsules & insert the capsules directly. (I wouldn't recommend this, because they're hard to get back out, and your OB won't be very happy with you when he finds some capsules coming out with baby.) Or, you can get primrose oil in straight liquid form (non capsule), and use a syringe or applicator to insert. Apply just a tablespoon or so every night. I would recommend one of those appliators that you would otherwise use to insert yeast infection cream.

Otherwise, talk to your OB. If you're still enough to full term, and baby's in a good birth position - you probably will be able to talk him into inducing you. I had a baby due way too close to Xmas, and with a child already at home, there was no way I was going to be in the hospital and miss out on such a holiday. My OB induced me a week early, and I had my daughter just in time to be home from the hospital, for the holiday.

No self respecting doctor would do this ,they could be barred from practicing Medicine ,and
To do so would possibly cause the baby to develope health problems that normally would not be an issue if the baby is delivered at full term.
This could cause you to end up loosing more time out of school, plus more money paying exspenses you may not be able to afford in your present circumstances. It would be better for you and baby if you simple took off the next semester.School will still be there after the birth but you can't undo the harm to a baby from a forced birthing
I had my 2nd child preterm at six months(causes unkown). She's 13 now and and will still have problems for the rest of her life All because she was born early...........

Doctors won't normally induce more than a week before the due date unless the baby is in distress, because even being 3 weeks early, my friend's baby has to be on a feeding tube.

I myself chose to induce before baby's due date. At 37 weeks your baby will be considered full term. I only delivered 1 day before my due date because it was the only time the midwife had open. But ask your OB or midwife. Don't listen to people who say your selfish. The fact that you are going to school shows that you want a good life for your family and yourself as well. Good luck!

I doubt that a trained obstetrician would ever allow a three week early induction. Babies come when they are ready! Unless, you have a condition (pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes)that would require an induction, you should deliver according to the due date set by your doctor.

Becoming a parent means sacrifice and sometimes you will have to put things on hold. Be aware that inductions can be long (30+ hours) and very painful!

Babies come when they are good and ready. Trying to change that is very selfish. Go to the nearest hospital that has a NICU and see what preemie babies go thru fighting for life then find a way to fit this baby into your life no matter what inconveniences you have to go thru. You will be putting this baby before yourself for the next 30 years so get over it.

My sisters son came one month early and hes on a feeding tube because he was not ready to be born. His lungs were not fully developed allowing fluid to go into his lungs. She was in a rush to have her baby. He is 7 weeks old and the poor little guy can't eat. Wait untill your baby is ready to be born. Then he/she will be ready for the world.

the baby will come out when the right time will come. neither your calculation, nor even ultrasound can't 100% predict the exact date. I know it's hard to combine motherhood and study, but in this case think about healthy birth process, don't try to induce the labor.
