Get one that is truly flattering to your body type. Don't try to look like a skank. Showing lots of skin isn't a good thing. Really, it's not no matter what your body type.
There are lots of resale shops and discount dress shops that have some really cute dresses. You don't have to spend a fortune on a dress. If you have afreind or cousin who goes to another school, they might even have one you could borrow for free.
If you can find a consignment/resale shop near you, check there first.
Some stores that might have some cute formals would be Ross, TJ Max, Stein Mart, etc.
Good luck!

1) Search your newspaper for garage sales. You may be able to find a dress that looks great. Make sure it is slightly, if not new.

2) Make your own (only if you think you can)

3) Go to a nearby mall. Large stores like JC Penny, Sears, Macys, etc. would usually sell dresses for a reasonable price. They usually have discounts and sales. Look for advertisements that they put out to public.

4) If you can not absolutely afford one, ask your parents for an advanced allowance (pays you your allowance ahead of time, but you must do all chores without pay for the amount of time they paid you for advanced).

5)Borrow one

I wish you the Best of luck!!!

I dont know what you are willing to spend but, not that Iam cheap but, I stop by second hand stores now and then and you might be suprised at what you can find! Top brand named clothes. I know I have seen some beautiful formals. Again not to be cheap but...does it pay to spend hundreds on a dress that you may only wear once?It may be worth checking out. Can save yourself alot of money. Noone needs to know where you purchased your gown. Best of luck to you and have a great time!!!!!
