"We say 'justice', we want vengeance."
No revenge is a poor simulacrum for justice. Justice is rightly a tool to teach all to avoid certain actions and to prevent the guilty from repeating them either through keeping them locked away or through behavior modification (punishment or teaching).
My opinion.
How to measure one versus the other - I suspect the emotional high one gets sometimes comes from the vengeance type.

I think that public opinion is that they are very close to the same, but justice is a punishment inflicted by the law, and revenge is a punishment inflicted by vigilantes. We usually think of justice as not being cruel or unusually, but it may include death.
The root of justice is just, which is a synonym for fair. Usually when people want something to be fair, they imply that everyone gets the same thing. I believe that this means that justice really should be defined as a punishment of equal proportion to the one inflicted.
Most people believe that punishment should be inflicted by the legal system, and not by vigilantes. There are many obvious problems with vigilantes seeking revenge, and it is unfortunate that our society is starting to value it. I believe that the media has been glamorizing heroes that are not subject to the government, or in some cases against the government.

The key difference between Justice and Revenge is that Justice is determined by a third party. The victim, by their nature of being the victim, will tend to overstate their losses in choosing a fate of their criminal. Justice balances the circumstances of the victim with that of the criminal.
Justice also has to serve as a deterrent, to prevent future crime. Given the amount of murder in our society, it is worth considering both whether the death penalty-in-15-to-20 years is sufficient, or changing the nature of life imprisonment to create a real deterrant.

No. Revenge is getting vengeance, retaliation. Justice is the carrying out of what is morally or legally right, dispassionately. Seeking revenge usually constitutes feelings of hatred and animosity, whereas justice is simply weighing the deed in a logical and objective manner and administering what is warranted.

I say no.
Because justice is a thing that the courts determine based on laws and evidence at hand.
Revenge is getting even with no regard to justice.
OJ faced his justice...but he has not faced the revenge.

I would say yes if the person that was hurt was able to deliver the justice personally. If not it would remain as justice, though if the justice is strict I think you could call it second best.

not at all. revenge is more what your emotional state feels would make you "even". justice is more what society deems an acceptable punishment. personally, i think karma catches up with all acts, even revenge. but i do think justice is needed to keep people safe and attempt some sort of order.

In certain cases yes. Justice was never served when my babysitter shook my baby and put him in intensive care for 3 days and in the hospital total for 10 days and back to the hospital once every week for the next 6 months. So now it's revenge. Every time I see her now I say loudly "have you shaken any babies lately" and I don't care who's around when I do it. She just puts her head down and takes off in the other direction. I just hope that it keeps it fresh in her mind and she won't do it to another child. (My child was the 2nd child she hurt)

Not at all.
Justice dears in absolutes but revenge is wholly subjective and may be desired because justice was done.
As when some scum kills a judge that sent them to jail.
