My darling son decided to see what would happen if he put Elmer's Glue All on the carpet. There is a spot about the size of the top of a jar soaked and dried on the carpet. I can't cut it out and need a way to fix it. Before I get a bunch of answers saying I should be watching him closer, he is almost 13. Just curious.

Try real hot water to dilute it and loosen it up. I spilt candle wax on a carpet once and that is what got it up, I think the same may work for Elmer's glue.

Elmer's makes a variety of products and clean-up can vary depending upon the formula.

School Glue or Glue-All products - soap and water are usually all you need to clean up these products. If it's on clothing, just launder as recommended by the manufacturer.

Rubber Cement on Carpet - Try to "ball up" the mass of dried Rubber Cement between your fingers. Any remaining residue should be cleaned with a dampened cloth and Rubber Cement Cleaner/Solution. This product can be purchased at Office/Stationery or Hobby/Craft stores. Repeat applications might be necessary for more absorbent or lighter carpeting. Be sure to test the solution on an inconspicuous spot of carpeting before using to be sure there will be no negative effects on carpet fibers or dye.

A steam machine would work the best. Working from one edge and pulling it up and working towards the other edge. You'll want to get some tongs to pull it up with because it will be HOT!

Wetting/soaking the glue with hot water will only make more of a mess and get the glue deeper into your carpet and padding.

Good luck!

Have not tried this, but I think it will work.. One teaspon of laundry detergent in one cup of rubbing alcohol brought to nearly boiling (will boil at lower temp than water, don't boil because of foaming) and immediately poured on the spot. Let it stand for ten minutes then try to soak up with a large white or light-color rag. Try to get it all up while the spot is still very warm. Repeat with a smaller volume of solution and fresh rags until removed.

I sat in a piece of gun last week, and it was thouroyghly stuck to my pants before I even saw it there. I ended up using a priduct called Lift Off (I think) and it worked for that, maybe it works on glue too.

BTW, why would a 13 year old want to put glue on a carpet? Shouldn't he be masturbating, or doing sumthing else fun?

Get some lighter fluid and a towel. Wet the area with the lighter fluid and rub with towel. Add some more fluid if needed, but with rubbing the lighter fluid should loosen up and remove the glue.

Good Luck!

Yes, Elmer's glue is water soluble. You might have to just keep using very hot... maybe soapy water to soften it. Good luck!
