You must get codecs for the thing you are playing it on.

You probably have a video codec missing... you're gonna need to get that codec and install it. To find out which codec is missing and where to find it - google the term 'GSpot Software' (or go directly to 'http:// www.divx-digest.com/ software/ gspot.html'). Download the GSpot S/W and install it.

Start the GSpot and open the avi file that you are trying to play - GSpot will analyze and tell you which codec you need to play the avi file and where to get it.
