Wait until it's dry, no rain or dew. Then set your mower height adjusters as high as they can go. Next time you mow , lower them 1 notch. Repeat this until you get the height you want, so you don't shock the grass. If you still can't get your mower through it, you may need to hire a commercial cutter.

Try adjusting the wheels on the mower.... Cut the lawn then lower them back down a notch or so I mow again. If the grass is too high for the mower at any height, use a weed eater to knock it down. Rake it, then even it up & tidy it up with the mower.....

Depends on what kind of push mower you have. If you have a self propelled one and the grass tall, you need something else to cut it w/. If you have a non-self propelled mower w/ a bagger, you might be able to do it if you bag the grass plus cut it in narrow swaths. Or you may either need to pay someone to do it for you if the above don't help. We bought a riding lawnmower b/c we have a rental that has the grass out of control. But for the first cut, we are having someone bushwack it so our new mower does not get ruined.

The tall grass must be falling before me as I walked alongside, and individuals gazing ought to imagine I had magic powers or some thing. they could call 911, the community newspapers, the farm extension place of work (they deal with grass inquiries), and likely the CIA. genuinely, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully must be notified, as well. i must be prevalent because the "Grass Whisperer" and change into admired, wealthy, and be in demand for backyard upkeep education; form of a "Grass Guru" :o

If the deck on the mower is as high as it will go and it is still too long try this. Start with the weed whacker but keep the whacker high so you don't go all the way too the ground then mow to even out.

buy a sickle (it's a small hand scythe) and hack your way hrough the foliage just like in tropical jungles.
after about ten minutes you notice the problem is getting worse because now you have swaths of cut grass on top of the unmowed lawn.
give up.
go inside and tell your wife that you failed.
then offer to pay someone to fix the problem.
hey, at least you tried. it's not like you just wimped out.

Just how tall is your grass? hehe You most likely just need to raise teh cutting deck of your mower to its highest setting and make a couple of passes. Or you can as others say, hire someone to get the yard back into shape!
Advice, keep it under control! When you let your yard go it will take total control! ;)

tough it out.
Seriously if it turly that tall and a big problem...go to a rental place and see what they have...industrial strength mowers maybe.
Then when the grass is a decent length show her how to mow the lawn...in these days of self propelled mowers there is no reason she cannot help.

Find a tool, mobile equipment rental place and rent a small tree and brush mower, try under equipment/tool rental in the yellow pages. This should be the cheapest alternative.
