Throbbing headache on wakening and normally disappears after about an hour...could have a week of them, then they disappear and come back again. I sleep in a very comfortable waterbed, have had different kinds of pillow and now use an air pillow which is comfy but I still get the headaches. (Female aged 59) HELP PLEASE - AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS.

Room is well ventilated. Also sleep soundly but probably don't get enough rest - must get this computer off a bit earlier :)

It sounds like your sinuses, even if your sinuses dont hurt. When you get up, about an hour later, you feel better...Things have drained. Therefore pressure goes away.

Have you noticed a drain down your throat in the morning after you get up? Clearing your throat? Do you hurt in your eyes, like behind the eyes? These are just things to think about.

I think thats what it is, cuz your sinuses dont have to always hurt.

Take a decongestant at bedtime, if that doesnt work after a few days, try a Benadryl at bedtime.....see what that does.

Hope you get rid of them...Those damn things are a real pain in the head!

are you getting enough rest? I know if I don't get enough sleep at night, I wake up very tired and with a bad headache. Try drinking more water, that helps me when I don't get the full amount of rest I need. You can also go to your doctor who can give you something to help...some people just get them for no reason they can come up with.

Have you had your blood pressure checked recently. Early morning headaches, particularly if you have a sensation of a "tight band" around your head, could be a symptom, as could dizziness. Do you ever get short of breath when you walk up stairs? How about when you get up from a seated position quickly? Once we pass "25" ( tee hee!) we want to make sure we take care of ourselves. (I'm 49 myself)
Take care.

Do you use artificial sweeteners, no added sugar foods, diet yoghurts?

Could be a mild form of Aspartame Poisoning.

Drink water. Most headaches are caused by dehydration.

may be your blood sugar is dropping during the night that can cause a headache. Have you noticed your headache going away after you have had something to eat or drink?

Do you sleep soundly? Do you have a partner who can tell you this? Is your room well ventilated? You could have sleep apnoea...stopping breathing ...this can cause severe headaches.

This also happens to me, and it is (for me at least) due to allergies. The pollens that are released during the evening build up and I feel pretty bad until I've been moving around awhile.

are you restless throughout the night ? do you sleep right through as broken sleep does have its drawbacks. If i wake with a headache you can bet mine is because of a stomach upset...
