There might have been one or two things ingrained into the black culture that was born because they were tied up, beaten, raped, chained, sold, bought, killled, and spit on. But more likely it was these things that made them strong enough to endure that punishment, and frankly rise above it. Hopefully soon there will be noone old enough who will really be able to associate with the pain and suffering that black people suffered.
It did not help, only hinder.

David,

Time for you to hit the books.

There is a movement in history, and being written is the fact that if the Europeans didn't take the black man off the continent of Africa, they would have had a very different lifestyle. Tribes were known for attacking each other and killing the men, kidnapping the woman, etc. In some cases the Europeans actually recorded which tribal persons "gave" them men to become slaves -- that was one way of getting rid of the competition.

Then there is the argument about slave treatment in America. Slaves were very expensive commodities -- a true investment. An owner to protect his investment had to provide shelter, food, medical attention, clothes, etc.

Though I am not at all for slavery, there are those that will tell you that a person in slavery did better than any American living in poverty.

Well i wouldn't say it helped them, but it made alot of them realize how wrong it was and started many revelations to correct the behaviors. Rosa Parks made a great statement by not moving to the back. This started many things to shape American iin what it is today. Slavery also helped the U.S. by bringing well talented people to the U.S. Without people like MArtin Luther King what would our wourld be like today?

Goodness no. In what way could be ensalved and treated like animals help anyone? There were laws that forbid them from even learning to read. They did not have the rights the rest of the population did. Helped them? No way.

It helped current blacks. They now have a crutch and many benefits because of it. I did not have anything to do with it but I am penalized when it comes to affirmative action in work place.
